Is porn good or bad? Experts analyze the consumption of “adult” content

Thanks to the massive Internet, pornography is within ‘click’ reach, and its consumption is usually a topic of debate that goes beyond morals. For some, consuming content like teamstee xxx videos is liberating, helping to discover sexual interests, enrich the sexual life of a relationship, and relieve stress. However, it can also have a negative impact.

A study published in the scientific journal The Journal of Sex Research suggests that pornography can “perpetuate completely unrealistic expectations when trying to reach orgasm,” and this is especially detrimental to women, according to the Huffington Post portal.

In the study led by psychologist Léa J Séguin, the 50 most watched videos on PornHub, one of the world’s most popular sexual content pages, were reviewed. They analyzed how many orgasms men experienced versus women, and the difference was considerable: 78% for men and only 18.3% for women.

According to Séguin, in the videos “female orgasms are produced through vaginal intercourse or anal stimulation, without any clitoral stimulation, whereas in the real world it is the opposite.”

“On the one hand, pornography often reflects and perpetuates unrealistic expectations regarding sexual relations between women and men. On the other hand, in porn, it is a myth that women are always seen having orgasms,” the psychologist told the PsyPost portal.

The continuation of unrealistic expectations due to pornography consumption is also echoed by Philip Zimbardo, PhD in Psychology from Stanford University.

In a column published in Psychology Today, Zimbardo stated that there are people who do not experience negative side effects from occasional pornography consumption. However, easy access to it “disconnects you from your sexuality in real life.”

“A recent study led by researchers at the University of Cambridge found that men who exhibit compulsive sexual behavior require increasingly novel sexual images because they get used to what they see faster than their peers,” the specialist said.

In this regard, Zimbardo points out that the constant consumption of pornography can lead to problems when it comes to “forming bonds and creating intimacy in real life”, as they have a wrong perception of sex and, at times, find it difficult to get aroused with their “real partners”.

“For many of them, sexual intercourse in real life can be a strange and anxiety-provoking experience. “This is because communication skills are required, the whole body needs to be involved and they have to interact with a fleshy, three-dimensional human being with their own sexual and romantic needs,” she added.

Finally, the academic noted that there are different opinions and judgments about pornography, and he emphasized that more research is needed on the subject. But denying that its consumption can be a problem for society is irresponsible.

So what should we do? Can pornographic content be treated like a virus that should always be avoided?

Of course not!

Just like with many things in this world, nothing is really good and nothing is really bad. In reality porn has always existed in a gray area. It can be good or bad depending on the people who enjoy it. If treated properly without overdoing it to the point of addiction and false expectations, pornography also provides some benefits for example which can be described as follows:

– Pornography may train people to control their sexual desires. How much harm can uncontrolled sexual desire cause? How many women per year are victims of rape and sexual harassment from people close to them? Without realizing it, pornography allows those with high sexual desires to satisfy their sexual appetites, thereby significantly reducing the potential for real sexual offenses.

– Pornography may be a digital sex education tool. Not everyone is an expert in sex and asking questions or seeking solutions about it can be very embarrassing for many. Porn often unwittingly teaches its viewers how to better satisfy their partners, in ways that they may not have been aware of.

– Porn is a means of ejaculation control for men. Men are the true arbiters of the quality of sex and the faster they ejaculate the worse the sex will be. By masturbating while watching porn regularly (in moderation), most men can better control their ejaculation and in real sex, they tend to be able to “last longer” and that is good for their partners.

– Porn is a means to discover new fantasies. If we think that we already know our fantasies then we might be wrong. By looking at porn of various genres we might realize that there is a lot we have been missing all this time.

So is porn good or bad? It can be both good and bad and it is those who consume it that determine that. Perhaps the analogy of porn to sugar is something that can “open your eyes”.
